Those items are then placed on a cart and a call placed to customers’ cell phones for credit card info, the order is rung up at the register, and purchases placed in the trunks of their cars — simple and easy! Curbside pickup and home deliveries are also available. Online ordering will be offered soon.
“We’ve already had a positive response from the community,” Mezitt said.
Observing social distancing guidelines doesn’t take away one bit from offering fine customer service. “We’re focusing on giving the best service that we can during this trying time,” he said.
The garden center will feature a special grand opening giveaway starting Friday — customers who spend $25 will also drive away with a beautiful PJM (Peter J. Mezitt) Rhododendron, introduced by Mezitt’s grandfather.
“We will offer every type of plant, tree, and shrub imaginable,” Mezitt said. “If we don’t have it, we will order it for you if we can get it. Because we have two other stores, there’s a good chance that what you are looking for will be available at one of them, and we will transport it to the Hingham location.”
The Mezitt family has owned and operated Weston Nurseries since 1923, becoming well-known for exceptional plants and helpful gardening advice of every kind for both beginners and experts.
In addition to Hingham, the Mezitts own and operate garden centers in Hopkinton and Chelmsford. “Now we’re coming to Hingham, and we’re excited,” Mezitt said. “This is the perfect place for us, with so many avid gardeners in the area who love gardening as much as we do.”
When the family learned that the former Lambert’s nursery center property was for sale, they jumped at the opportunity to buy it. “The Lamberts are a lovely family, and we really liked the idea of continuing the tradition of family ownership,” he said.
Hingham resident and manager Mark Taylor is a knowledgeable gardener who is looking forward to sharing his expertise with customers.
The Mezitts plan to host a celebration and some kind of a fundraiser when things settle down. “We’re really looking forward to welcoming the community to our garden center and thanking them for their support,” Mezitt said.
Hours are Monday through Saturday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. for now.
