Many of us continue to work from home and are still spending more time inside due to the continued cool weather. That’s a lot of time at home! We are all under stress and the general levels of anxiety and depression have increased tremendously.
So how can we be happier? Especially at home? Studies show that surrounding yourself with nature can reduce stress, anxiety and depression as well as improve your memory and focus and generally make you happier.
The first step is to open your shades and let the light in. Sunlight triggers the brain to release the hormone serotonin which can boost your mood and reduce anxiety. Once the light is coming in through your windows, add houseplants!
Being surrounded by greenery can also reduce your blood pressure, anxiety and stress, as well as improve your attention. In fact, the South Korean government has distributed thousands of “pet plants” to help battle COVID depression.
Some people find tending to their plants is a form of meditation, providing a lasting feeling of calm. In addition, caring for plants can give you a feeling of control over your physical environment, which has been shown to enhance cognitive performance.
We have houseplants in every shape and size in our greenhouse that would be perfect to enhance your home environment and make you happier!
